MSU Alum profile: Lynsey Dyer
Lynsey Dyer is a dynamic creative artist, explosive big mountain professional skier and youth empowerment mentor. Born in the ski town of Ketchum, Idaho her decision to attend Montana State University was easy as it offers two things that inspire her, a nationally known graphic design program in a stunning high mountain setting. Embracing the unofficial MSU motto of graduating students with their personalities intact, the four-year experience in Bozeman offered the perfect opportunity to develop her creative skills while at the same time fostering her life-long ambitions.
A decade into her career Lynsey implements her creative skills on a multitude of levels. As a professional athlete sponsored by Eddie Bauer, GoPro and Jackson Hole resort she utilizes her real-world understanding of graphic design to promote each endeavor. Being the first woman to ever land on the cover of Freeskier Magazine she employs all her backcountry knowledge and applies it to action sports photography. Featured regularly by Eddie Bauer in their apparel catalogs and in-store promotional material, she implements her extensive understanding of art direction on all location shoots.
It is easy to see Lynsey’s creative abilities in the groundbreaking film “Pretty Faces” produced by her company Unicorn Picnic. This first ever all-female ski film shows the elegance, grace and community that is unique to women in the mountains. This successful crowd-source funded $100,000 Kickstarter project became a huge success, screening in over 65 ski-towns across USA, Canada and Europe.
Another project that fuses Lynsey’s social consciousness and design thinking is her involvement as the co-founder of a non-profit called She Jumps that encourages mentorship for girls and women of all ages to participate in the outdoors. To give a snapshot, one of their latest events is a climb up Mount Shuksan in the North Cascades to raise funds to support the Wild Skills youth imitative program. These are just a few of the dynamic projects where Lynsey Dyer uses her creativity.
