MSU team takes two awards in a business startup challenge held recently at UM.

Jessie Madeson, a Senior in Graphic Design was part of a team that presented a new business idea —Farmented — received the Athena Award, the Polymath Award, and the overall Honorable Mention at the John Ruffato Start-up Challenge held April 13 in Missoula. Her team brought home $5,500 in prize money.

 

 

The Athena Award honors the strongest female entrepreneur(s) and the Polymath Award honors the best interdisciplinary team that mixes both humanities and science.

 

Vanessa Bakken, a senior studying business marketing, along with Vanessa Walsten, a senior in Sustainable Food Sytems, and Jessie presented Farmented, an idea generated through the interdisciplinary DSEL Farm to Market course. Their business, in partnership with Strike Farms in Bozeman, helps solve the problem of waste through excess vegetables through a new line of fermented foods.
